TWO foreigners, a Guinean and a Liberian, masquerading as diplomats on a delegation to the Arusha-based International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), were arrested on Wednesday in possession of 31 kilogrammes of cocaine. 

The Head of Police Drug Unit, ACP Godfrey Nzowa told reporters in Dar es Salaam Thursday that the arrest took place at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) and investigations were underway. 

He named those arrested as Diaka Brama Kaba (52) of Conakry, Guinea and Abubakkar Ndijane (50) of Monrovia, Liberia. 

"Kaba was arrested with 17 packets of cocaine or 17 kilogrammes, the drugs were found in his bag that was marked as "Diplomatic Bag -Travail Justice Solidarity, The Republic of Guinea, Conakry No.002." 

"Ndijane was found with 14 packets or 14 kilogrammes of cocaine in a bag that was marked 'Diplomatic Bag-Travail Justice Solidarity, The Republic of Guinea, Conakry No. 001," he said. 

He said when questioned the duo said that their journey started in Trinidad via Panama, Brazil and South Africa before landing in the country. 

"They insisted further that they were diplomats with a crucial consignment of goods to be delivered to ICTR in Arusha," he said.
